A small band of Japanese soldiers are fighting nearby and a British captain asks Mizushima if he can convince them to surrender and save their lives. However, they refuse his entreaties and are killed in the ensuing attack. In the aftermath, Mizushima disguises himself as a Buddhist monk and embarks on a journey to promote peace whilst also burying the dead Japanese soldiers he encounters as he travels.
